Non-Fiction Monday: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Day 12 theme: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Non-Fiction Monday

At my house we read a lot! A lot of what we read is about trucks, cars, diggers, tractors, monster trucks, and more trucks. We love buses, trains, planes, cars, and all the mighty machines out there. We even watch Mighty Machines DVDs (worth every penny). Here are a few transportation books you might like too.

Capstone Press has a wonderful line of transportation books about trains, trucks, planes, boats, and working machines. The images are large, vibrant, and very appealing to young readers. As a librarian, I appreciate that Capstone offers a sneak peek at some of the pages of the book. This is a helpful tool for me when I am having to pinch pennies on every book purchase and need to thoroughly research every single book I put on my yearly school book order.

I am a fan of DK books. The are chock full of information and are a visual feast for the eyes. Children are naturally drawn to DK books because they want to know more about the world around them and DK brings it.

More than just a sticker book, Sticker Encyclopedia: Things That Go features a wealth of facts and jaw-dropping statistics on vehicles every type, from super-fast race cars, to enormous jumbo jets. Readers can use the book’s hundreds of stickers to illustrate these facts, create their own scenes, or add some zoom to their school supplies and lockers.

This is a terrific activity book for younger kids who love cars, trucks, buses, planes, helicopters and of course stickers.
